Japanese firm N-Ark has revealed its plans for a floating city for tourism, medical facilities and even space rocket launches. Named Dogen City, it would be designed to deal with any rise in sea levels due to climate change, providing energy, food and water for up to , people.
The city of Dogen would have a circumference of km. It would have a capacity for approximately , permanent inhabitants, to which up to , tourists could be added at any time. Its circular shape would be designed to withstand severe weather conditions and even tsunamis, although no further details are available at this initial phase of the project.
We know that the project would be divided Phone Number List into three different areas: the so-called habitable ring, which would house the main housing area; an underwater data center that would be naturally cooled by the sea and contain city management and medical research facilities; and a floating architecture inside the artificial bay created by the ring-shaped structure.
There would also be a lot of greenery, food production facilities, a school, sports areas, hospitals, parks, stadiums, hotels and offices. Additionally, as already mentioned, N-Ark imagines that Dogen City would include some sort of launch and landing pad for transporting rockets. Healthcare will also be a major focus, with residents having access to telemedicine consultations and high-tech blood testing for potential problems, as well as robotic surgery and drug research.
N-Ark has done its calculations and estimates that there would be around million liters of water consumption per year, which seems quite modest, in addition to the annual disposal of , tons of garbage. Almost , tons of food would be produced and ,, kW of energy would be generated. Meeting all of these needs would certainly be a huge challenge and details on how the floating city would do it are scarce at this stage, although the images provided do show many photovoltaic solar panels and the aforementioned food production facilities.
We still have no word on where the project would be located, or its budget, although N-Ark expects it to be operational by As for the odds of it happening, we'd rather not bet. However, in a world where "The Line" project is currently being built, we wouldn't completely rule it out either.
