The United States has a biofuel passenger flight powered by a blend of renewable algae jet fuel and conventional jet fuel and has signed a letter of intent to negotiate the purchase of more than 50 million gallons of clean biofuel.
Last summer, United joined the Consumer Group on Sustainable Aviation Fuels , an industry working group aimed at accelerating the development and commercialization of aviation biofuels . Group members including Air France, British Airways and Boeing account for about 32% of commercial jet fuel demand , according to United.
The team used computer modeling of the system to study the effectiveness of liquid solvents and nanoporous zeolites , porous materials commonly used as commercial absorbents , in capturing methane . LLNL 's work is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency.
A study published in the journal Nature Communications Telegram Number Data found that liquid solvents are not effective at capturing methane . The researchers say that of the 87,000 zeolites tested , only a few had enough methane absorption capacity to be technologically promising.
physically and chemically trapped by a variety of solvents and porous solids , methane is nonpolar and weakly reactive with most materials.
Zeolites can be used for various types of gas separation and storage ( see figure ) due to the different topologies of the atomic network of the different frameworks . The researchers say the blue colors in the image above represent the absorption sites that are best suited to absorb methane.
According to LLNL , methane is the second largest greenhouse gas emitted into the atmosphere and accounts for 30% of current overall climate warming.
its impact on the climate are growing as unconventional oil and gas production rapidly expands and Arctic ice continues to melt, potentially releasing large amounts of greenhouse gases from decomposing materials.
other news , Constellation and the Summer School District have completed a complex project of 1.6 MW (DC) solar energy production facilities in Yuma County, Arizona , located at five locations: Desert Sonora Elementary School, O. Orange Grove Elementary School, Somerton High School, Tierra del Fuego Elementary School . Valle del Encanto School and Training Center. Collectively , the units are expected to generate enough electricity to meet approximately 60% of the school's electricity needs. Constellation owns and services the solar systems.
